If you were a betting man you’d do well to know what you’re betting on rather than assuming you’ll be right. This is common however as the majority of those betting on a horse don’t know the first thing about the animal. But my poker experience might be difficult to relate to your derby, because some of the most unassuming hands can be winners :)  You just have to know how to make play them
