Could you show the other side of stick and frog to see if there is anything altered? The metal underslide looks very assymetrical, so it's possible that the frog and stick were altered to fit and possibly both weren't going together from the beginning.

Sorry for the delay I was affected by the website issues. More photos

Thanks! Yes, we had some rest for a few days, leaving suddenly time for otherwise necessary work.;)

The slide of the stick is clearly mutilated (the mortice now more narrow than the facette), and the frog came form a stick with a lower facette being obviously much broader. It's also possible that the adjuster doesn't belong to the frog. Are you sure that it's silver, too?

The concave big heel was used by a few German makers only at non-Vuillaume type frogs, that's an interesting feature. But it can't help much in regards of the stick.

Thanks very much Blank face. I see what you mean with the slide now - sorry I misunderstood before. Everything had tarnished very dark black so I assume it is silver. Really appreciate your insight and help.

Interesting. The mortice of the stick is unusual, but you think it isn't original? How and why would one modify a mortice to make in narrower than the facet? Can you see where wood was added?

Thanks.

The most probable explanation is that someone tried to adjust the stick to the frog and had no clear idea how to do it. A mortise is usually wider than the facette or exactly of the same width, but not smaller like here.

Looking more close to the photo of the adjuster it appears as if there’s black tarnish at the floor of the rounded collar, so it looks right for the assumed period and silver.
