Summary / analysis will be posted to all the places the survey will be. Individual responses will be kept strictly confidential.

Depends on your perspective. The prevailing Maestronet polemic resents anyone earning anything from violin making

Does it apply to repairing, too?

I've not noticed much resentment towards makers making a living, on this site. But a lot of resentment toward dealers making money trading in violins. And the stupidity of any customer paying retail for an old violin, from such a dealer

What @deans said, plus some resentment towards music-store people who charge for sanding bridge blank feet, and calling that a "set up", like they actually cut something, on a trade fiddle that they'd marked through the roof, already..

@jacobsaunders, nobody here that I've noticed has ever done anything but praise your restorations that you've posted.

Yes, there will be some resentment towards those who claim to be "in our trade", but have no clue what they are doing. But none of this is anthing new.

I think it’s great having a job that you like as long as there is food on the table and the rent and utilities are paid.  Do the math and you will find it’s a tough life. Nevertheless, if that is what you want, go for it.
