Label says "Spezial Antertigung Fur Hans Weisshaar & Son Inc. Los Angeles".

So I assume it was made in Germany for Hans Weisshaar Company but who would be the maker? Is it a nice enough instrument to get restored?

Just because the label is in German, you can't assume that it was made in Germany (Does it say made in Germany?) Could be Chinese for all we know, and had the label stuck in in Los Angeles.

Could this perchance have been a sales sample? because "Spezial Antertigung" translates to "Special manufacture"

Perhaps some factory or luthier wanted to have weisshaar distribute these instruments for them.

That would explain why "a bridge has never set foot on it".

Very interesting. If so, would a sales sample be of lesser quality or unusable?

Regarding the bridge, there is a small rub spot where the bridge would have been.

Terms such as "Special manufacture" or "Special Copy" have been found in violin labels for a long time.

To me, the OP's violin looks like it could have come from the Gliga workshop.

No...  the sales sample is always the "best of the bunch" or better. It is intended to impress.

You should remove the strings and tailpiece before the tailpiece damages the finish.

And it probably had a bridge or the strings wouldn’t be there anyway.

not a bad looking fiddle, for all that.
