Jonathan21 Posted August 8, 2021 Report Posted August 8, 2021 Label says "Spezial Antertigung Fur Hans Weisshaar & Son Inc. Los Angeles". So I assume it was made in Germany for Hans Weisshaar Company but who would be the maker? Is it a nice enough instrument to get restored?
Richf Posted August 8, 2021 Report Posted August 8, 2021 The best answer would probably come from the best source: http://hweisshaar.com . Good luck!
Ron1 Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Looks like a bridge has never set foot upon it.
FiddleDoug Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Just because the label is in German, you can't assume that it was made in Germany (Does it say made in Germany?) Could be Chinese for all we know, and had the label stuck in in Los Angeles.
Mat Roop Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Could this perchance have been a sales sample? because "Spezial Antertigung" translates to "Special manufacture" Perhaps some factory or luthier wanted to have weisshaar distribute these instruments for them. That would explain why "a bridge has never set foot on it".

Regarding the bridge, there is a small rub spot where the bridge would have been.
Spelman Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 I can definitely see imprints from bridge feet.

To me, the OP's violin looks like it could have come from the Gliga workshop.

PhilipKT Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 You should remove the strings and tailpiece before the tailpiece damages the finish. And it probably had a bridge or the strings wouldn’t be there anyway. not a bad looking fiddle, for all that.
