I've been having trouble the past few days posting anything. I can log in, but when I reply to a post, it just hangs with the "Saving" button grayed out.

Edit: It worked just now, using the Chrome browser, but Firefox still exhibits the same problem.

It seems to depend on what edits you're doing.  If it hangs, try cancelling and starting over.  I use Firefox, and that works for me.

I don’t like being called a space(y) cadet.

Well now that we have a Space Force we can have real space cadets!  But with a name like that who's going to join?  :D

Maybe the new forum software was written by Google, and that's why it only works on Chrome...

Brand new members I think, and the shield is for moderators.

????  Most new members seem to have the rocket but not the hand.

The shield seems the only clearly useful symbol among them all.

This makes me wonder who actually owns and who maintains maestronet. Is this a profitable endeavour? Or are we at risk of loosing this resource?

NASA? Richard Branson?

No, it is owned by Invision Power Services (pic below from their website)

I would be surprised if MN were profitable.  I'm guessing break-even (with funding coming from the site sponsors).  Other than the forum, the rest of MN is entirely out of date.  At least it seems like that to me.  If I'm wrong, let me know!

Which the begs the question of membership fees.  Would that be useful?  How much?  Etc.

To answer the financial sufficiency questions, MN sells advertising, so with all the hits they get, forget about membership fees.  I also have reason to believe that MN's a minor sideline of a major ISP in the Toronto area, owned by a violin enthusiast, or at least that was the scuttlebutt I heard many years ago.  :)
