Studies on racist attitudes have found somewhat less than 50% of people having clear racist attitudes, but those racist people are twice as likely to be Republican (right wing) as Democrat, what is an almost entirely right wing phenomenon is the wholesale denial that racism exists and is a important issue we need to deal with today. That is mostly what we have been seeing here, and that is why I linked it to the right wing, not because it is racist, but because it is the denying that racism exists or is a problem, I've yet to hear a Democrat with that attitude.

The comments by Zuckerman were clearly racist and would be interpreted as such by a large segment of the population, regardless of what our right wing fanatics would say.

So you're claiming that those who happen to see things your way will agree with you? Well isn't that remarkable! :P

You're the one that's defending racism, not me! Even though you won't come out and say it, that's what you are doing.

You are a horrible racist and should be ashamed of yourself. Prove you aren't, racist.

Bullshit! Why do you repeatedly rely on false accusations?

I hope you will be able to use this thread as an opportunity to reflect on your own bigotry, prejudice, and negligent assigning of stereotypes.

....and THAT's how stereotypes begin!

I'm not racist because I judge people based on their individual ideas and comments, not their race, its not racist to try and fight racism, or you can just roll over and let it control your life.

Wait.  But a person who can show sympathy for Zukerman, a person who immediately recognized and apologized for his mistakes, is a racist?  Isn't that the gist of your earlier comments?

Isn't Zukerman's acknowledgement and apology a step in the fight against racism?

I am not entirely sure I see the flow of your logic, or lack thereof.

So those who don't happen to be in lock-step agreement with you are rolling over and letting racism run their lives? What other absurd claims would you like to make? And who appointed you judge and jury?

You seem to be unaware that Zukerman has a long history of racists comments against Asians and other aspiring violinists, maybe you need to go back and read the OPs thread with the comments.

A person once told me that if you are not the intended target or a part of the intended targets' group, the best way to show support is to just be there.  Over-zealous and hyperbolic arguments from non-minority persons in support of equal rights and diversity do not go very far with me.  I applaud and can respect most of the comments about racism, sexism, anti-labelers, Markie supporters, anti-vibrato baroque movement, etc...but I certainly cannot respect people who try so hard to be the poster child of a movement if that person is not a part of the intended targeted group.

Wait.  Let's deal with the present.  Someone's past doesn't necessarily discount someone's current actions.  I am well aware of some of the statements Zukerman has made regarding Asians.  What is at issue here is that he is showing remorse and apologizing.  What world do we live in if we cannot acknowledge the present and attempts at course-correcting?

Before this conversation goes further, I am going to lock it.  The news is relevant to our industry, but I suspect the discussion, and various viewpoints held, will inevitably become circular and without resolution.

My best to all!
