Okay, first there's a large brand saying:

"reproduzzione

antonius straduarius

andreas morelli"

...and below that is a label saying:

"andreas morelli

hand-made reproduction

antonius stradivarius

anno 1724"

...and on that label is written -- see the photo.  I can make out "violin" and "serial number 792" but what are the first and third words?

It seems that you may have a German violin from the workshops of Karl Herman circa 1920s. They used the label "Andreas Morelli" on a range of violins they produced. If you post  pictures, the experts  here may be able to confirm this for you.

I think it says..................

"model violin style 1 (landolfi ?) 1792"

The fact that the writing is illegible and is written over the label indicates that it was probably inscribed through the f-hole with a pen after the violin was closed.

A pen would have to be under 5mm in thickness for you to be able to write through the f-hole and the result would be much messier than that! And you'd probably bugger the f-hole ...

Ok, agreed, it does sound improbable, So what is the better explanation ?

I considered "model" but nothing there looks like a "d."

I think the new suggestion of "master" is more likely. My apologies' for not reading your opening remarks and seeing that you already had "serial no 792". Where on earth I got "Landolfi 1792" from is anyone's guess. I need new glasses !
