Is this English?

I remember reading @jacobsaunderssplendid article about the history of the English bow, and among other things I recall that they had a top hat style mortise, which is invisible here of course, but the article also said that the early frogs were open trench, and the early buttons were bone or  ivory. I do not know whether Ironwood was in common use over pernambuco at that time, But I am wondering if this is an English bow?

And if not, a bit of a refresher on traits of old English bows would be welcome.

And no, I’m not interested in the bow, just learning.

Subtle hint for Mr S to chime in.

I would also be curious to know. The head looks Dodd ish but the frog looks to be non original? Although the condition report doesn't say anything other than about damage.

If you live in Londinium, shouldn’t you be speaking latin?

Having just looked at 100s of pictures of bows I am now going to state that I think this is French Circa 1850.

And something like School of Peccatte or Gaulard.

How can you tell how old it is?

Bow ID is strange to me. How can anyone tell who made what without an impressive provenance?

I'm just looking at pictures of similar bows construction and material wise. The all seem to be French c1850 or around that time so that is my best uneducated guess.

You should read it again, and take a whole lot of features/characteristics that one would expect in an English bow on board

Share the link? I’d love to read it again but I can’t find it

WOW...I am dumb.  "D." "U." "M."

I read and re-read the description in the Lot to check for spelling, grammar, and any funky terms or phrases...BECAUSE I TOOK THE TITLE OF THE OP LITERALLY.

Yes.  Yes, indeed.  The language is the English language.  The bow?  I dunno.
