By that I mean the one colour you'd use to broadly describe an instrument.

At school, people were shocked that when mixing colors, they always ended up with some brown...well, all were shocked except for the artist amongst us.

 

Mine: Green. The color they turn after being sold!

a nice wood wash of water and PG7 washes all the pink away,

and nobody know's it's even there.

Just a touch less than a full tube per fiddle.

Just enough so that it becomes hard to tell if you're even Irish,

unless it's Saint Paddys day,,, which,,,  in which such a situation you might happen up ,,,on

they might guess you were ,,

I find wood in all it natural colors wonderful. Our job as maker’s is to help show how special the wood is. Here’s a piece of maple (pic from this morning) that has never had any finish other my hands and many many loaves of breads and pies. Is it yellow or brown?

Yes, fortified with just enough Barenjager to add depth to the flavor. Still working on the perfect ratio.

I agree - I think visual texture is at least as important as color. Here’s some very successful golden yellow:

How does it sound?

Very, very good.  Plays easily, projects well, and resonates very noticeably.  It's an Italian amateur made violin by Mario Salustri (in Albano Laziale, near Rome) that his widow sold through an Amati auction in 2019.  I couldn't be happier with it.
