henrypeacham
Any reason why Ingles & Hayday have never offered an aftersales in their auctions?

You would have to ask them, but in general it seems that they just hold on to stuff and put it again in the next auction. Speculating, but maybe they feel that aftersales show unsuccessful initial sales and they feel that looks bad for business.

Or the "after sales" could simply be private sales. When the estimate and reserve were reasonable for an item and it doesn't sell, it damages the future salability of that item. Potential bidders wonder what's wrong with it, and the value can be heavily discounted. That is one reason the failure to sell the Hellier Strad was a disaster for both Christies and for the reputation of that violin. That was a big-ticket item with lots of marketing and prestige, but Christies couldn't sell it. Why? Recycling the same unsold merchandise through consecutive auctions would seem to me to be a lose-lose for both the auction house and the consigners. Yes I completely agree, this all seems quite possible and quite logical. However I am pretty sure that I have seen I and H put a lot in again for another sale, but they only have two sales a year so I am not really sure anyone actually notices. I am sure that most auction houses do place unsold listings in future auctions if that is what the consigners wants, but I would guess that they would lower estimates and reserves when they do. Shelbow
Also sadly it looks like the Swiss Arteal auction is cancelled, it was still pending a few days ago but now it has disappeared. I will keep the listing for a few days in case it appears again, but if not I will delete it.
