Oh I have a story like that too. Do you know why extremely sharp axes are better than dull axes!

Because were in a very sharp axe slices in your toe it makes a nice clean slice…which is still there.

The famous story in my house is my father and his older brother go out to chop wood, uncle Joe, aiming for the log hits a clothesline, the axe comes straight back, hits is forehead, as he's gushing blood, my dad runs to the garage and steps on a nail, pierces his foot.

But, then, let's not joke about how much more dangerous an unsecured firearm is.

An unloaded gun in a safe is not nearly as dangerous as an axe, but an axe blade detached from its handle, stored in a safe is also pretty safe.

It is also interesting, that when I realized the axe was in my boot, it's the "uh-oh" of that moment which has remained so clear in my memory. 

I also haven't chopped wood since...with an axe.

Last year I bought myself a small electric chainsaw. It's awesome.

When I had my incident, I looked down and saw the axe in my boot, but I hadn’t felt a thing. I mentioned to my companion how lucky I was that the ax had sliced into my boot but had missed my foot. I went back to chopping on the log but within a few minutes I noticed how sweaty my foot felt, I looked down and saw that my white athletic sock was now soaked with red, and I said, “Oops” and took off my boot and saw that the axe had not missed my foot.

Never felt a thing.

@PhilipKT To you the axe was dangerous to me it was the actual wood. Very similar incident in a way. I was out running, going dark and as I ran through a wood near were I live, I ducked beneath an overhanging tree branch, but not quite enough, farther on in my run I thought I was sweating a lot more than my exertion demanded, it was only when I reached the main road and street lamps showed my previously white t shirt to be now a lovely deep crimson shade. I went to the hospital were the nurse asked if I had run all the way there, five miles, not withstanding I would have ďied of blood loss, nine staples to hold my head together.

Well, sorry you were injured , but glad you got stitched up .  I guess it's just fact that some of us need to go through life wearing a helmet.

Only my pride was injured as I didnt complete my run as fast;), the staples did slow me down even more though on my next run, couldnt take the extra weight....

Dont know about a helmet, could do with wearing full armour  as I am a walking disaster area.
