Another bow query. What fun!

I’d just like to know what other folks say about this unmarked bow. I see what appears to be a broken tongue, the button cap is missing, leaving the core, and the lapping appears to be new. The other photo appears to show a half-lined frog, but I’m wondering if the heel plate is so tarnished as to blend in with the ebony?

The violin is nothing special, but I’m wondering if the bow itself is of any interest?

I saw this yesterday at $77, now it's over $200.  Agree sterling mounted bow, no clue if it's straight or has a head!  Fiddle is OK, big old saddle crack though.  Lifton case with a key!  But considering we're in the middle of a pandemic the idea of a "vintage hankie" is frankly terrifying >>shuddder<<!

I've noticed somebody is buying up a LOT of "the usual" type fiddles (i.e. nothing special and/or hot messes) off of SGW for ridiculous prices.  I'm just going to assume this one will go for like $1500 or something.  It also may be back in about 10 days when the bidder doesn't pay.   I've seen at least 4 different not-great fiddles go for a thousand or more only to suddenly show up again in a week or two.

I can’t imagine anybody spending $1500 for that, but it does look interesting. Plus I have a fondness for plain frogs.

First I heard about shop goodwill was a violin that included I think a genuine Hoyer bow, and it was sold and then the sale fell through and then it was sold again at least one more time, but it eventually sold for quite a lot of money. I wish I had “quite a lot of money.”

Here's one I have saved twice in my favorites; sold once for $4,002 then showed up again two weeks later and sold for $1,500.  Pretty sure that sale stuck.

But THIS I simply do not understand.  It sold for $4,001.  I haven't seen it back yet...

Both of these fiddles were won by "M*******o".   Now, whoever they are THEY must have quite a lot of money!

Yep.

I was off by a grand but the one you posted went for $562.  Maybe this means $$$bags is on vacation?

I think we both suffer from the same affliction: finding a Hill bow unexpectedly once. In my case it was early on in my violin hunting; just ridiculous beginner's luck.  16 years later I know exactly how lucky that really was.  But.. I always  still  look at the bow.

And I second @Rue that you are a good sport.  :)

Annnd, it's back!

I'm beginning to wonder if Shopgoodwill of the Columbia Willamette is using shill bidders.  Many of their fiddles lately have sold at ridiculously high prices at first, and then re-listed several times.

But this violin already sold? Why is it being relisted, and at the same bid as the final bid in the previous auction?

All good questions, for which I have no answers.  This is the third time it has been listed.  All of listings have started at $44.99, I've still got them saved in my favorites.  Looks like only 2 bidders are bidding on it this time, so far.

Buyer's remorse and non-paying bidders are both things.
