Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Please post here your links for violin making videos, particularly old videos. Learning about violin making, it is great to see how it was done in the olden days.

The Red Violin is a beautiful movie

As a new hobby, it is quite fascinating. This is for amateurs/hobby. To become professional it is a lot better to go to college.

With much appreciation, Rachel

Contemporary - EViolins youtube channel

By Charles R Ervin

Has a wealth of information, he traced an actual Stradivarius and analysed them. Very interesting

Violin making is something that can be researched and researched... More and more, there is a world of information out there. It is truely mesmerising, it is a mystery..

Great youtube channel, he is also part of the forum.

Davide, that video of your Prime Note violin. Looks amazing, fine workmanship. It is perfect!

Thanks!:)

I hope you won't consider me on the list of "good channels of older violin makers", I'm not that old!

You can guess this from the fact that my videos are in color and not black and white...:P

Hahaha no no no!

You are a great contemporary maker! Let's not get confused!

There is something about old makers, the simplicity.. Without all the bells and whistles.

Davide, I like your style, you are an inspiration!

Well people can post here links of great makers new and old. Preferably in colour lol

Oh me oh my, how easily some people are seduced.

Rachell, if you have a good-paying job, there will be no shortage of "starving artists" who will want to marry you, or at least hump your leg for a minute or two.

Please send me a summary of your gross income, your net income, along with your tax filings for the last five years, and a photo of your leg. :)

I tried to contact Mr. Ervin but he never replied.   Some of his videos are interesting although not for making.

Stradivari may or may not have achieved your level of insightfulness.

Chill, David.. Come to think of it, you and Jacob Saunders.. Now that's a match made in heaven.

I love watching anything about the violin. Sound testing, history, different makers, there was a video of Mr Ervin discussing one f whole being a mm higher than the other.. Fascinating..

I don't claim to know, or be insightfull, but I sure love to learn.

I have never taken so much time researching before learning to do something. I just find violin making on a different level. I want to take my time.. I gathered a lot of information, i just can't decide on what tools to get. I am starting with cheaper wood from David Dyke. I can learn carving on that, no need to botch up anything valuable.

I like this channel, great maker

Hahaha.. Top notch! I love that saw video, lol

Yup, his vids are hilarious.  I sometimes, however, wonder, given the responses of many folks when we tell them where Grandpa's "attic Strad" really came from, or how brilliant and original their amazing new theory of classical violin layout actually is on a scale of 1 to 10 (), how many poor deluded people may have innocently tried that technique out?   Scary thought.  ;)

Kids and family are my biggest priority. They are worth my time. I love taking care and spending time with my kids.

Greenhouse gasses..  you mean old people..

Who says i need to finish a violin in a month? I could do it in a year. My aim is to start with 4 hours a week

I believe you intend only one in particular.  Careful with the aim, we don't need any "collateral damage".

Good for you.  It's the most important job there is.  Don't take any sass about it.  :)

Yup.  Why not, if one can.
