This was my Grandmother's way back when and I've had it stashed away for decades now since her passing, just wondering if anyone has any info on the who/what/when/where details of what the Violin is. Any help is much appreciated!

Note to OP:

To post your picts, just copy and paste the link starting with "https" and ending with "jpg". (That is what I just did.)

Also, take pictures like these of your violin. And take clear pictures of side views of both ends of your bows.

Thank you! Yeah, I just did the old bbcode cut/paste which doesn't take, oops. I looked at that thread before taking the pics, ah, I see you're trying to get a pic of the arch on the side view. My mistake, will attempt better pics (maybe outdoors) when I get a chance.

Nice fiddle, in really good condition!  No cracks that I can see. That's a big plus.  Maybe a 20s-30s Markneukirchen?  IMHO the label is a copy.

When you take more photos in the daylight, remove the end pin at the bottom, and put your cell phone camera up to the hole; it takes some patience, but you can actually get sort of decent photos of the inside that way.  Try to get photos of the corners, neck block and bass bar.  I'd be curious what it looks like in there!

How are you able to see the photographs? I cut and pasted one of the links into my browser but it didn’t work

Thanks! Hopefully, time permitting, today I can get some more detailed angles under better light.

20's-30's would line up with the timeline well from what I understand. My grandmother, story is, became fairly accomplished on the instrument for her age then gave it up when she married quite young after WWII like much of her generation. She went to a school on the south side of Chicago back in a time when they actually offered study of music to the kiddos! The saved aural skills and theory paperwork she had tells me they took teaching seriously. And, I know she played in the school orchestra which IIRC was one of the cities' competing youth outfits.

Sorry, I only remembered the endpin part when taking photos. They're a bit cumbersome though, here's what I could come up with:

Nice, thanks! Now I will wait for the experts to chime in :)

I have one question for the experts: are the linings walnut?

The linings are spruce.

Not sure I meet the criteria for expert lining identifier ;)

So I take it there's a bit of a mystery with this one?

:)

Its more to do with the pictures not being good enough to make an ID possible.

When you get to 10 posts you will be able to post them here directly. But the pictures need to be bigger, less blurry, always straight on and not angled. A side picture of the ribs and a pic of the bottom rib would be good. I think you can dismiss the label, as the violin would be very valuable if it was correct.

Your violin is probably a better quality early 20th century German violin from Marknirkirchen with a fake label. Better pictures of the bows would also be nice, especially the heads.

Thanks!

I have a friend who has a music/guitar shop and has a nice little photo booth set up. I'm going to ask him to help me out with some higher quality pics, the backroom and smartphone by hand just don't cut it beyond facebook marketplace, lol.

I was wondering about the moderator approval thing, thanks for the heads up.
