Wood Butcher
I’m sure in your heart, you already know the answer.
stringcheese
"Tourte" is to bows as "Stradivarius" is to violins.......
PhilipKT
It’s not that stunning either, although it might be worth $
PhilipKT
Actually, it’s not a bad looking bow for all that. The button looks exactly like my Gillet bows. Is it French? asking for a friend...
Jwillis
I saw this. The other bow that they were selling looked more interesting. Of course it went for more than double

Jeny Mahon
I'm not remotely an expert on bows, but the stamp on this bow looks like a typical Tourte copy that we see everywhere. I'm guessing it is a common Tourte copy stick that was tarted up with a maybe Bausch frog, perhaps sterling screw, fancy thumb leather and silver wrap. The other bow the seller had; nice to look at, and includes "other exotic materials". i.e. ivory, mayhap? I have zero idea who would have made it but it looks more completely authentic to me anyway, whatever it is. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stunning-Antique-Violin-Bow-With-Case-/265055577732 The only thing we know for sure is that all the bows and fiddles sold by this person are STUNNING! There's even a Federal sofa, which I will admit is actually pretty stunning https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stunning-American-Federal-Sofa/254776339335 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stunning-old-Antique-Violin-labeled-Wonderful-tone/254879135187 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stunning-Violin-From-Renowned-Polish-Luthier-Machiej-Lacek-/265065416951
Strad O Various Jr.
Anyone selling violins at prices like these with a no return policy is some kind of fraud IMHO

I was wondering, however, if this particular bow were actually a better quality French bow.

I will never ever buy something on eBay unless they offer a return policy. Wait, that’s not true I bought a Volkswagen fox from the New York Police Department about 20 years ago. It was incredibly inexpensive and it was a wonderful little car I loved it for several years

Emphatically no ..... In fact, rarely seen a less "stunning" bow. there are French bows that have spurious "Tourte" stamps, but never this way up.

As far as I’m concerned “emphatic” carries more weight than “Stunning” every time.
