Garth E.
Described as everything but a Hill case. I suppose all cleaned up it could look nice. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Violin-Case-Coffin-Style-Old-Brass-Hardware-Possibly-French-Origin/114655505780
PhilipKT
On Invaluable, someone is offering a hill violin case on a stand, and it is so beautiful and so moderately priced, that I kind of had the urge to buy it myself even though I have absolutely no idea what I would do with it. Garth E.
I'd be interested to see what it fetches.
tradfiddle
The one on Ebay is not a Hill case, but a fairly standard mid to late 19th century British case. I was picking these up a decade or two ago at £100 a piece (or less). I have several well preserved ones of this type (including a late 19th c. Hill version of higher spec). The price asked is very, very steep even by today's prices, esp. given the internal condition and missing latches. It would be expensive at $200! The one on live auctioneers is a Georgian British (or Colonial-era American?) case - hopefully not now wedded to that awful stand...

I wondered why there was not even a trace of a label. Thanks for the correction. I also see the hardware is different from Hill cases. I think it’s beautiful, but of course I’m not going to bid because, what would I do with it aside from maybe growing some mushrooms. Is it worth anything? Three13
It seems like the stuff from Skinner's sale of Glenn Wood's case collection had much better deals in it than the stuff linked here. The only lots that struck me as particularly strong were the Apostle cases. I picked up three lots in the sale, and was very happy with what I got. The Ebay case is missing key bits, is relatively common, and is worth very little. If the Georgian case on the stand has not been attached to the stand, and it has its original interior components, it could be worth around £800-1200. Garth E.
Bromptons gave me a 200- 400 pound valuation on my Wardour St. Hill case. I thought that was fair.
