Im sharing because I think I remember that name as a french trade name, but more importantly, the varnish on this violin looks like the varnish I’ve seen on Breton violins and other lesser French trade violins. It’s in terrible condition, and I don’t want it, but is that an accurate view of the varnish?

I can't comment on the value or provenance, but I fail to see the 'terrible condition'.  Is there some obvious flaws I'm missing?  maybe you mean the damage by the treble ff from clumsy soundpost work?  back seam?  what else...

buy it cheap and resell it to me at a markup.  :)

Two meaningful cracks on the front, that require the top off, and yes the back seam.

meanwhile, my query re: the varnish?

I don't get a French vibe off this violin ... the varnish in particular seems more MK than Mirecourt.

But the photos aren't great.

Martin, thank you as always. This auction is also offering a claimed Gaetano Guad and a Lupot. As well as some other very nice looking fiddles. Would love your thoughts on the Lupot, which is almost black and I thought Lupot were golden.
