Rachell66 Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 There is one seller Melodietaube, German, those violins look nice, labels are probably fake, but what do you guys think?

Rachell66 Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 I think there is one-violin-international, Portugal, Lisbon. They look pretty good, he has video clips of all his violins that he's got on sale
Wood Butcher Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 I think i’d much rather go to a shop, where I could try things out first, and be sure of what I’m getting, be able to take some home on trial, have some guarantees etc. Taking a shot in the dark on something from abroad, when there are so many places near you seems a strange way to find a violin.

You obviously didn't play a Stainer, but some cheaply massproduced instrument from the cottage industry with a randomly added brand or label. Also the other isn't a Maggini but something alike. Drawing conclusion from some junk instruments in regards of tonal effects of archings, models etc. leads invariably to ridiculous assumptions. To tell in a public forum "I played a Stainer and it was shrill and harsh" while you played in reality something else is a kind of spreading fake news.
Rachell66 Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 I haven't bought any violin there. Not planning to. I am extremely picky. Although I had some great experiences with ebay, my violin, as shoddy and as cheap it is. I had it professionally set up and tweaked. I love the sound and that's what counts. I also love yitamusic as a beginner student violin, next to a stentor, it is better value and I sell them to my students, they love them. I tried up to £2000 and I haven't found the one that beats mine. Yet.. I'm sure if I expand my budget to 10000, I could find ... But alas.. This budget only stretches so far... Do you know, as with any profession. You have a massive amount of students.. The more you go professional, you see less and less.. Until it trickles to a low percentage that go all the way. Then you have enthusiastic people with low income. Yitamusic is a great choice.

Oh yes, no, no no, definitely I played a mass produced, claiming to be a stainer, which was a cheap and failed imitation. My point was the high arch was not making it sound nice. Moving the sound post was not going to fix the problem, it was a horrible violin

Anyway, it was a sharp incline up the belly, going from really low to exaggerated height. I am not saying I've got the knowledge, just wrote about one experience. Not a nice one. I got the opinion from a very experienced luthier Anyhow, my violin, my Mittenwald, or that's what I thought. Jacob, what's the verdict? Just looking at that thread, I can't say. So please describe the different components of my violin and what makes it a Mittenwald or Markneukirchen. https://maestronet.com/forum/index.php?/topic/347871-sound-projection/&do=findComment&comment=920147
Wood Butcher Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 Almost all instruments, made in Italy during the golden age have, what might be considered by today's standards, high arches. Yet these are the most valuable and in demand violins there are, so it can be concluded the height of the arch alone is not a factor in whether something sounds nice. Your "stainer" will have been poorly attended to in all areas, from cheap wood, poor arching concept, plates far too thick and stiff, cheap hard varnish, probably cheap fittings and poorly set up too. This makes for a long list of reasons why it didn't sound nice.

If you are to idle to do your homework, state prejudices about arching as if they were fact, and think that ebay is “foolproof", then some people will gradually come to the conclusion that you’re a lost cause

The more I learn, the more I realise I know nothing.. The more hungry I get!! Just crazy!
Wood Butcher Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 So maybe go to a shop, where you can try things out, and have people explain to you about the instruments?
Rachell66 Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 It is foolproof, for me because I won't take crappy violins, I will kick up a fuss. Sorry.. That's how I feel Just by looking at your list, for example the scroll, there is 'delta', a lot of words I don't understand without the picture that is a reference to your description of a certain attribute. I can't go to music school, or violin making school, as much as I would love to. That's not on the cards. What is obvious to you, is not obvious to me.

I would love that, but my luthier is a busy man.. Once the auctions open, when everything settles I am looking forward to viewing violins, museums, travel, different violin shops

I asked you three times to just tell me what the violin is..... You know what it is... I will do homework, get to know the violin on a deeper level. That takes time, reading and looking at pictures, violins. I would have appreciated an answer, a short explanation from an experienced man of your caliber. I like my violin whatever it is. Thanks

I do that, but I like taking a violin and showing it, hearing about it from professional. I have not found one in my budget that I liked, besides for this violin that I bought for £75 on ebay, from Germany that I gave in to be overhauled. I looked up until £2000. I'm not the type to go in debt to buy the violin of my dreams
Blank face Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 58 minutes ago, Rachell66 said: Martin gave you already a few hints in the other thread: The lower rib made from two different pieces of wood (visible at the end pin), the scoll fluting (from the front view) stops before it reaches the very last end of the throat. These two points alone would make Mittenwald impossible. There are other features like the way the rib joints are placed in relation to the plate corners and how they were set together, also inside the form of the corner blocks (if there are any at all) and how the linings are set against or morticed into them. There are other tagged words like "cornerblockology" in this forum where you can find many photos to explain all of it. So maybe your violin shop guy confused the two German places starting with "M"?
Rachell66 Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 Eva pirazzi gold strings, the best bridge, wittner fine tuning pegs, fixed and planed fingerboard.. £800. It was worth every penny.

Thanks Markneukirchen area "Dutzendarbeit", in case BF wasn't clear enough
