arielle123 Posted January 14, 2021 Report Posted January 14, 2021 (edited) Hey. Just wondering if Conrad Gotz has any violin with just a sticker inside? So weird because I havent seen any like that except this one that I own. Edited February 17, 2021 by arielle123
Brad Dorsey Posted January 15, 2021 Report Posted January 15, 2021 Conrad Gotz was/is a wholesaler and distributor, not a violin maker. I doubt that anyone would fake a Conrad Gotz violin.
Guido Posted January 15, 2021 Report Posted January 15, 2021 They have been around for a long time and labelled violins in a million different ways. They are, btw, still around and if you ask nicely they might be able to tell you something about your particular violin. Else, as Brad said, they are nothing special, also they traded a variety of grades.
germain Posted January 16, 2021 Report Posted January 16, 2021 They make good chinrests... not so sure about their violins
Violadamore Posted January 16, 2021 Report Posted January 16, 2021 http://conrad-goetz.de/en/index In shops, they are not particularly cheap, especially some of the older ones. Asking them about the model you have would be a good idea, like Guido said.
jacobsaunders Posted January 16, 2021 Report Posted January 16, 2021 It looks a bit like the label from a cake of rosin has been stuck in your fiddle, so you might not even have a “Götz”

As darned near always, we need more photographs to tell @arielle123 anything useful.

This could be one of those impossibly rare moments when the instrument could be better than the label might lead you to believe?
PhilipKT Posted January 16, 2021 Report Posted January 16, 2021 I’ve seen one Conrad Gotz violin. It wasn’t mine, but it was an attractive and nicely made violin, and I think it sold 20 years or so ago for between $2500-3000. I remember it had fairly high arches, and it did take a while to sell, But if the OP violin is similar, it’s possibly not a bad widget.

Wood Butcher Posted January 23, 2021 Report Posted January 23, 2021 Certainly looks quite new, but does not seem to match anything in the current Gotz violin line up. How long have you owned it Arielle?
Jwillis Posted January 23, 2021 Report Posted January 23, 2021 Here is one I had briefly. Dated 1962...
