Bass bar very visible

Is it usual for the bass bar to be this visible?

This violin has a very dark sound, it sounds almost like a viola or celo, I'm guessing the two things are related...

It's usual for the bass bar to be visible, yes.
It varies a bit with the type of arching, and width of the sound hole, as to how much you can see.

A bridge in the correct angle always appears to be leaning back. But yeah it was slightly, I do it on purpose and then tune the violin using the pegs and check the 90 degrees with a ruler. When tuning it always leans slightly to the front.

Is the bass bar supposed to be that far forward? This one seems to extend beyond the bridge.

BB is usually length of the table subtract 8cm. And 13-14 mm high or so depending

The bass bar runs almost the full length of the top on a violin, just like it does in the cello topic you posted here. It's the same, but scaled down.

Did you think bass bars were only as long as the part you can see through the soundhole?

Look into the upper eye of bass side f-hole. The bass bar should pass near the edge of the hole that is closer to the center of the violin. If it is passing under the hole itself or closer to the purfling edge, it is a non-standard bass bar location.

A highly arched violin with an aggressive arch transition closer to the edge can have the effect of making the f-hole appear wider as you look sideways at the violin.  This would enable you to see more of a bass bar that is in a typical location.

I've also noticed that some bass bars are very visible through the f-hole while others aren't.  I just figured the 'hump' was lower down and/or larger?

If you look at the picture what's in focus and out of focus, the bassbar has to be behind the outside bass edge of the bridge to be as out of focus as it is.
