duane88
Who says it is French? Who says it is 140 years old? I'll give you 50 bucks for it, as is.

martin swan
Looks like a decent Mirecourt/JTL violin from the early 1900s, and in good condition apart from some dunts to the varnish. What does the label actually say?

What does the label actually say? Its very hard to tell from the poor pictures, but the scroll looks to finish early at 6 O"clock or so. Would this be normal for a JTL of that period ? jacobsaunders
Yes, or half past, going on for 7 o'clock
martin swan
I can't speak for JTL specifically but in Mirecourt violins it's uncommon, though it does imply a lower grade of instrument and suggests the date more likely to be post WW1

Jul
it says : F. Breton (a name), patented deom S.M.G in Angouleme (a small city in France)
martin swan
OK - this label was used by a number of Mirecourt factories/dealerships, but the date on the label doesn't relate to the date of manufacture. Normally there's a brand on the button - can't see it here but maybe it's worn.
Jul
This one is supposedly from VISSENAIRE, Luthier in Lyon (France) in 1861.
