W.C.
Just came across this oddly rounded looking violin on Brompton's December sale. Autodidact? Though most of the work look quite nice. And is the purfling modified or added later? Looks something is off to my untrained eyes. Also I am curious about Lot 319: Lot 319 - A Violin - 1st - 11th December 2020 Auction - Brompton's Auctioneers It does have a slight Italian look to me, though the low estimation makes me second-guess my thought. It's in pretty bad condition though. Posting just for education and sharing purposes. Not utilizing the knowledge from this forum for personal benefits.

No definitely not the label. Though looking back to it now I think Dutch. I thought the construction looked somewhat Italian, but tbh it is really hard to tell from only the front and back images, with an unrelated scroll. The F holes are saying no to Italian too. Thanks WB!

zhiyi_zhang617
I thought the experts will chime in soon. To my untrained eyes, the fake scroll graft and the purfling extremely close to the edge are the dead giveaway.

I just thought it would be fun to post it here . Though I am not sure if that is a fake scroll graft. Looks to me the grains don't match.
