Question is why are you interested about style on that particular head? Are you bow maker, restorer or player?

I bought the bow and the maker who made it maybe 40 years ago couldn't remember what style he was going for as he has his own head style now. So I was curious to see what MN had to say.

The bow has bad finish at inlay, a crack as I see from low resolution picture. It is not a good job...  Which is the name of the maker? 40 years bow making has to be well known.

If the bow is 40 years old and has been rehaired a number of times, how can you be sure the maker is responsible for the crack in the nose? Maybe the OP dropped it

The finish on the bow looks fine to me,why because it has an open grain ??

The tip as Martin says could have been knocked at any time ,i suspect the bow as a more recent ivory tip ,ebony veneer under the tip looks a little thin. Bow head shape and chamfers look respectable to me!  Nose could would look better with a little up curve but that ay have been lost when the tip was damaged..

I guess he's talking about the dark liner at the nose. Of course this and the headplate seem to be later replacements. But this hasn't much to do with the OP question.

I agree that it looks similar to Ouchard/Cuniot, but could have also have a lot in common with other Mirecourt makers or shops. A picture of the frog and adjuster could help.

Planning to do a bit of online shaming?

Martin, what do you think the depreciation should be for the crack? I'm beginning to think i overpaid since I missed that.

It's not in a very critical part of the head, but any crack/defect in the head is problematic. I think maybe 10% down from the price of the equivalent bow in excellent condition ... but I'm probably overly severe about condition issues in bows.

So the maker's current bows go for about 12-15k, I'll be honest. I picked it up for 1.5k since it was made before he got famous.

No, you're wrong, he didn't say; that he said it was made before the maker was famous, not he bought it before he was famous, are you using google translate or something??

I bought it recently. It was made before the maker was famous. I did not buy it from the maker directly. I gave price as a comparison. Thanks.
