Hi,

My my brother in law family discover some months ago that they have a violin that has the label Joseph Guarnerius inside, it belongs to their grand father and seems to be for several years in a closet in the old house.

The label cites a 174 but is missing the last number and it lacks the word "Germany". Im attaching some pictures so maybe somebody with experience and knowledge can help us to take an initial look on them and let us know if is worth to take it to a competent appraiser.

A little bit of history, this violin came when the family brought some farm tractors and other machines from Europe at that time (not known exactly when), it was a gift for one of the kids, since then it has been in different hands but always in the family. The violin has sentimental value and I don't think they want to sell it, but we are curious about this.

It looks to be German, from the Markneukirchen area, and made roughly 1890/1900.

And from your pictures, it looks to be a decent example from the period.
