Spelman
I'm looking to have some simple inlay done on the fingerboard of one of my violins. Does anyone here do this or have suggestions for luthiers who would do this in the Washington, DC area? Thanks!
lwl
Reputable shops of significant size with in-house luthiers: Brobst (Alexandria) Potter's (Takoma Park) Gailes (College Park) Perrin's (Baltimore) But a good luthier is likely to discourage you from doing it:
Wood Butcher
An inlaid fingerboard presents real problems when it is time to have the fingerboard trued. I’d imagine some places wouldn’t want to touch it, for fear of cutting through the inlays when working on the board.
jchumley
One of the finest inlay artists anywhere is in the DC area. Kevin Enoch builds banjos such as these: https://enochbanjos.weebly.com/custom-orders.html Or Pete Ross who worked for and studied with Kevin for years. He's in Baltimore. http://www.banjopete.com
