Dunno about the planes, but the Hock blades are first class.

Can you say a little more? How are they great?

Thanks

Price to performance ratio as regards ability to take and retain an edge is very good. Not as good as pmv-11, but less than half the price where applicable

Jackson,

Thanks for you reply.

My testing shows PM-V11 holds an edge 3 times longer than O1.

That is to say, it will cut 3 times more linear meters of wood.

So, if you don’t use it very much, then, yes, the Hock blade is a better deal.

I trust your testing. I just don't have much cash, so I get by on what I've been given or bought cheap, for the most part. Always appreciate good tools, however. Maybe someday I can buy some of yours.

Until then, I'll keep on as I have been. What kind of workman would I be if I blamed my tools?

My introduction to Hock irons was through my Lie-Nielsen No.62 low angle jack. I like the heft of the blade,  and how it seems to reduce chatter compared to the usual Stanley blades. I do not make my living at this so my use is not frequent and I have no experience with pmv11 so I cannot comment on the edge retention comparision. It sounds like they're worth checking out!

Ever happy to plug Australian products (I have no interest other than wanting to promote Oz businesses) HNT Gordon has a beauty, but bigger than the ones mentioned above.  Available in the US at a good price because our dollar is so low: https://www.heartwoodtools.com/hntgordon/radius-plane

Their planes are just gorgeous. If I ever buy a larger jointer it will be one of theirs. I wish they made the radius plane in one or two smaller sizes, but that is undoubtedly a lovely tool at a very reasonable price.
