To bin or not to bin the Violin??

Welcome to MN!

It is an attractive early 20th century German import violin - not a Vuillaume and not particularly valuable. Sorry! But it looks like it would be a good student-intermediate violin if it were set-up properly.

It is remarkable that it survived in an attic without coming apart at the seams or cracking badly. The varnish looks like it is in very good condition.

Hi Thank you for the feedback. It is a very attractive Violin and I was amazed how well it has survived. I have no idea how long it has been in the loft but we have currently lived here 15yrs.

The Violin was found when we decided to renovate the loft space.

I don't play any instruments. I sort of guessed it wasn't going to be of life changing value...lol but totally agree with some expert tlc it could serve well as a student instrument.

Can anyone give me names of companies who may repair the Violin.

I have contacted a couple of Luthiers but after sending the photo's have received no communication in return!!

Not so fast, with only those photos, I wouldn't rule out Mirecourt at this point.  :)

UK near the City of York :-)

I would guess that there are some good luthiers around you. Maybe somebody local could suggest one. Call some local violin teachers, for example.

You might be better off just selling it as-is rather than spending money on it to try to sell it later. A dealer might buy from you tor restore themselves for their shop.

If you are interested in selling let me know, I live in Liverpool but am going to York in mid October for a holiday, no going abroad this year, maybe if you get a  price we could do a deal, looks just the job for me as I am a beginner and it would perhaps last me a good few years. Is the sound post still standing?
