Clarity on through neck please.

Thank-you Jacob, were the through necks continued into the 19th c when violin making became more factory oriented in France? Was it a quality building method that was less economical therefore abandoned?

I don't think that through necks or nailed necks were abandoned because they were more expensive to make. Rather, I think that as more experience was gained with neck projection dropping over time, neither turned out to be as amenable to a neck reset as the mortised joint.
