Dutch violin?

Recommended Posts

A bit off topic, I know that purfling helps to protect the body from cracks, Is there any structural purpose to the second set of purfling? Or is it purely decorative? It seems like an awful lot of work for something that’s not necessary.

What better description for anything involving the playing and making of violins!  Maintenance of violins is the only thing that is necessary.

I would warn against getting too radical in this direction, after all, why do violins have scrolls? A cup hook would quite suffice to hang the violin up:). Purfling is decoration, and there is nothing wrong with that. If you go and visit a baroque church, you will find scrolls everywhere.
