Brad Dorsey
It happened at Skinner's spring, 2014, sale. Read about it here: https://maestronet.com/forum/index.php?/topic/332380-slips-through-the-cracks/

The buyers were highly knowledgeable dealers who had known the violin for a long time, and even though it had been dismissed as Del Gesu by the greatest expert in the US, they still believed in it. David Burgess
13 hours ago, Violadamore said: One note about what Jacob keeps saying about heirs' expectations. In this part of the USA, where a lot of people retire to, the families are often spread from sea to shining sea, and just want to empty the safe deposit box and the bank account, collect the insurance, sell the real estate, collect the vehicles, and get done with it all as fast as possible. They usually have no idea what personal keepsakes Granny still had, or what any of it might be worth. They seem to figure that the house contents are all trash anyway, the exact reverse of what Jacob describes. In this environment, you'd be surprised at what turns up at the sales, priced to disappear quickly. It must be nice, living at "The Villages". Plus, "The Villages" already has a fairly-well-equipped woodworking shop, which I think residents can use without additional charge. And a woodworking club with about 600 members, if I can accurately recall what I read a little earlier today. Dang, I might be talking myself into joining Violadamore down there. Little or nothing of genuine value, and no genuinely good bargains. But had I been willing to spend $3000 worth of time to get maybe $200 in savings, perhaps I could have done a lot better. I may just have an attitude problem. It really depends on who the estate sale is for, and if the family realizes what they have. Apologies if this touches on the morbid, but what if it was David Burgess's estate sale, and your family just wanted to clean house? I'm sure there are many tools, instruments and possessions that would be of considerable value, to the right person.

I do it too. If me 'n the ol' lady pass before our cat, will you be willing to take him on? He's a really spectacular dude. Arthur Toman's and Rene Morel's estate auction sales appear to have done rather well, and my potential heirs have been advised of this. So there may or may not be any screamin' deals. When I found out Lee Valley sells DIY casket hardware, I told the wife I could build one and we could use it as a coffee table in the living room until one of us checks out. She didn't display too much appreciative humor over this. We have two cats that only tolerate each other at the best of times, yet both are good friends with our collie dog. I'm not sure another cat would integrate into our local community well.

There is so much stuff out there..good stuff and bad, we can't even imagine the stuff that's not in view. Whatever you collect, it's there. I think it's in the timing and sometimes timing has nothing to do with it. I always look for things that are almost impossible to find. I seem to find things that are close though.
