Thoughts on this Monstrous violin?

Recommended Posts

I found a couple of examples online from different sources which show violins with very similar if not near identical head carving. In both cases the seller / owner seems to think it is from around 1840. In one case they think it is French.

I just thought it was quite curious........

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Shelbow

That's interesting because the other listing I found that was similar said it was by Jules Remy.

From the pictures, I don't see anything other than a "fancy" Markneukirchen trade violin c. 1900. The corners look built-on-the-back.

What is the LOB? Is the back cleated?

I'm pretty doubtful my one is either. But it's a funny little thing and it amuses me.

I'm going to get the same haircut now that the barbers are open

Just to say I'm no longer in possession of this, I ended up returning it and trading for something else with the seller.
