French Polish

Recommended Posts

When I learned violin making 15-20 years ago, it was taboo using French Polish, what is the feeling nowadays?  I am doing my first ever FP application on an archtop I am making.  This is after about 5 coats.

It's the nature of French polishing that ensures a thin finish. I suppose you could end up with a thick finish if you kept at it for long enough. Most people become bored long before that happens though.

Are you talking about French polishing new or old instruments?
