Yes, I think it could be a viollelagh. The Irish also carried a pocket version called a ukellelagh

I call these works as "naive" violins. Imagine you living in a poor, isolated place 100 years ago or more. Violins were expensive, so some guy with wood working skills decide to make a violin. There were no Strad plans.... the guy draws an scroll by eye... this is the result.
