Carlo Micelli Violinmaker

Recommended Posts

Carlo Micelli= Carl Meisel. Not a maker, per se, but a shop name.

It doesn't look as old as the label. Many seem to have 1926 labels in them...

Can be decent violins.

What Duane said. Looks like a decent example. I have a 17 1/4  inch viola, plays well.

Carlo Micelli was a trade name used by the Karl Meisel firm for its top-quality instruments and bows.  Some of them were quite nice Markneukirchen violins.

That is a very very large viola.

Had a few Meisel/Micelli instruments over the years, some pretty nice, but about 25 years ago I had one that looked good but sounded terrible, tight and nasal. Sold it to Jack Frye, who regraduated it and made it into a really good sounding instrument.
