Inga
Hello! I am from Russia (I don’t know English well, I translate it through Google). There is one violin Schweitzer copy Amati pestini 1814, it has long been evaluated by the master in Moscow. The master said that the violin is a manufactory, but not a lot of fake, but a good copy, which is included in the catalog, one of the 30 that are in the catalog. Please tell me how much will such a violin cost? I was thinking about evaluating the violin in London, but this assessment is very expensive for me and more, and suddenly the master from Moscow was mistaken and I have a simple fake for $ 100. The photo cannot be inserted, because it is limited by the moderator. Joh.Bapt.Schweitzer fecit at forin Hferonym Amati pestini 1814 (stamp on the lower deck inside the violin) Under the stamp in blue ink, the letters "I H" and something else are blurry. A copy of Amati - corresponds to the year - good condition - was not under repair.
Inga
It turned out to insert a photo. Sorry if the quality is not very good.
Inga
I would also like to add that my relative played it for 20 years and it has more chamber sound, not bright and not solo.
martin swan
Hi Inga I'm not sure exactly what you have been told about the violin, but it's a very typical example of a type of violin made in Saxony in the late 19th century - all the features are things we see on other examples with this fake label. The value is more like $1000 not $100, but it has nothing to do with JB Schweitzer. Often these violins can sound pretty nice, and the condition seems to be very good. DannyJoines
I have one that was handed down from an uncle. It was found in a vault of an old hotel that was being torn down. It has a 2 piece back. Here are the pics. What can you tell me?
jacobsaunders
Thousands, if not tens of thousands of budget violins were manufactured by the cottage industry in the Markneukircchen region during the late 19th C: with the spurious label "Schweitzer". They invariably have a facsimile label dated 1813, although Schweitzer himself hadn't even moved to Budapest until a few years later. some years ago I posted pictures of a real Schweitzer cello, so people may see the difference
