Questions about pernambuco.

Recommended Posts

Pernambuco can be shipped in board or unfinished stick form if you obtain A USFW permit by proving that you owned the wood before the CITIES declaration. I know because I just was granted one. You can get a one time permit for about $100 or a master fle for $200 which gives your buyer a record that the wood is legally obtained and follows the wood to completion of the product.

Eric, I know that we need a USFW permit to export, but do other countries accept that document for import, or are there import documents needed for other countries? I know that Casey Burns (a flute maker up here) had some things returned from the EU. He had done right on his end, but the clients didn't know what to do on the other end.

I just got he permit, mostly covering my Brazilian Rosewood. but including my pernambuco.  I will be calling to ask more questions about what to expect when selling overseas.

I finally called the USFW office that issues the permit. You get a sepatate CITIES pre-Convention Certificate for each shipment. Any Country that signed on to the CITIES agreement (almost all) will honor the certificate. I don't know if Casey had a pre convention certificate or not, they are relatively new. EU countries have signrd on to the CITIES agreement so they should accept this document. I should call him to see.
