Nice and clean.  Definitely like the pear.  Current build is a cello with a willow back, so probably will stick with a maple center.

Thanks, Jim. I think you're going for a good contrast there.
Other good news is that the willow will be a bit easier to carve, and lighter to lug around the workshop than maple.

Tomorrow we will find out if Boris is sending us back to work. I hope all these plates I've jointed in the last few days come in handy.

40cm viola (15 3/4"), varnished and set-up. Colour looks a bit lighter and slightly less red than reality, due to the lighting.

I wouldn't say so, Don.
They bend OK, but I don't think there is much in it. Perhaps less tendency to fold across the figure, otherwise very similar in terms of the force needed to shape them.
