Kriss Posted October 17, 2019 Report Posted October 17, 2019 Does anyone have any information about Florida violin maker Gino Cavaceppi? I inherited one and can't find much on line.
violinnewb Posted October 17, 2019 Report Posted October 17, 2019 Number 3 on my basic google search: Biography Note Born in Rome, Italy on October 26, 1931. Gino Cavaceppi was a musician and luthier who played several musical instruments. Gino appeared on several TV specials in Florida and is listed in "The Violin Makers of the United States," a book containing articles on the leading violin makers of America. He passed away on January 6, 1987.
Kriss Posted October 17, 2019 Author Report Posted October 17, 2019 I found that as well. However, I cannot find but 1 example of his work with no price. Is my violin worth anything? I don't play and I don't want to give it away. Or let it collect dust...

Contact one of the New England auction houses, either Skinner, or Tarisio, But there are lots of others. Contact more than one and see what they say.

I'm from Gainesville where Gino lived, and when I was a kid, I played on a 3/4 size bow named the "Gino Cavaceppi Memorial Bow" made by David Forbes. I think David knew Gino, you could call him if you wanted first-hand information. If your violin is in good shape, it's definitely worth something.
