Mittenwald Violin?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Would I be correct in saying this violin was made in Mittenwald, probably around late 1800s? No signs of a scroll graft. No label.

Thanks in advance.

Probably later neck/scroll.

What does it look like at the heel of the neck, has it been rebuilt around that area?

From the first set of pictures, it looks like the bass side of the scroll has been cheeked. The volute looks much plainer, and you can see where it was feathered out.

I don't see it that old that it would need a scroll graft. This style and model was still common in the mid 19th, ground and varnish are usual to this period, too.
