Violin bow stamped *Alfred Knoll*

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I found this bow in a box full of old bows I have. Is it possible to tell from the photos what wood it is, and if it's worth a rehair?

Thanks in advance.

If you take some better photos you might be able to send them to the firm and ask for a period of manufacture, and possibly for a “trim line”

I have owned many of these cello bows and they are excellent student bows.

Knoll makes a wide range of bows. from cheap to pretty good. Yours Looks like a cheap nickel mounted Brazilwood school bow which might retail here at about €300, when rehaired.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to the catalog, aren't the Brazilwood bows only stamped with "Knoll". Without the * stars, or the name Alfred?

since yours is a bit older, I wouldn't trust any stars
