Just got a Cello

Recommended Posts

I just got a Cello. It had been sitting in my aunts closet for a long time, and when I got it out the strings were very lose, and some were off the pegs. It’s a Knilling cello, but I’m not sure of the make, model, or even size. Any tips regarding to setup?

If it is a Knilling, it is probably plywood(literally) and not worth setting up. Just in case, take it to a violin shop and see what they say.

You have to decide if this is something you want to do yourself or take to a shop. If you want to do it yourself you need to check and see if the soundpost (inside) is in place. I'm sure there is a youtube video on stringing it up if the soundpost is in place. If the only problem is it needing to be strung up I think the charge from a local shop would be small, especially if you bought some rosin and a simple book or two.
