Cremona day trip

Recommended Posts

Cremona Books (In the museum), Cremona tools and Liuteria tools(if you are making violins) and then there would be around 200 Luthiers you could visit. Best to start the day with a cafe in front of the duomo. (Should be getting quite mild in March, but Davide knows for sure...)

Anyone know if there's luggage storage somewhere? Looks like you can't store at the train station. Also do violin shops require reservations?

Apparently Stradivari’s house is now mcdonalds. What is the world coming to?

Where did you hear that?? Fortunately it's not true!

Stradivari's house on Corso Garibaldi still stands at no. 57, but his subsequent home/workshop on Piazza San Domenico n. 2 was demolished in the late 1800s, along with the church of the same name, to make place for the public gardens.

The two McDonalds are outside of town altogether, along with Burger King and KFC, but I would honestly suggest a good trattoria instead! :-).

Dimitri, just look for Tubino with the search feature here.  If I remember right, probably don't, a previous owner dug a basement and discarded the earth without going through the proper agencies...

You can usually walk into a shop, but they might not be there unless you call ahead.

I'll put in another vote for Cremona tools.  I ended up having my student buy a viola from Alessandro Tossani--it's a fabulous instrument, and I tried a violin while I was there that was also just lovely.
