Rue
Tangent: Maybe it's just me - but - I often find myself frustrated by both too many choices (especially these days with international shopping) and still an inability to get what I want. Yet - it seems like other people get exactly what they want... So - if you don't care if you have any say in the matter, then you can pick from the plethora of merchandise readily available. If nothing quite fits the bill, then you get custom made. But - if that custom item STILL doesn't get you what you (think you) want - are you supposed to settle? I am glad that Dimitri's client agreed to more suitable fabric for the lining though. Picture of the fabric? I love fabrics and fibres. To that end, I harvested my first-ever cashmere on Sunday. I think she's forgiven me...

I've had various ups and downs with that. These days, I try to keep it as simple as possible. I do what I believe will work our best for a client. and If a commissioned instrument doesn't meet a client's expectations, I refund the deposit, typically in less than two weeks. I think the last time I needed to do that was about ten years ago.

Interesting product that's made from wood pulp. I know you do a lot of testing. Have you tested the water vapor absorbance of different materials? I remember the days when I worked in the polar regions where the saying was "cotton kills" because it holds water and if you sweat with cotton against your skin it will freeze. Instead, we always wore polyester or polypropylene that has a more hydrophobic nature. I am thinking the ability to absorb water vapor can act as a buffer to changes in RH. Just a thought model. I don't if it would actually work that way or if the difference would be meaningful. Cheers, Jim Possibly because I'm over cautious about storage materials I'd consider washing it in distilled water before use - just to remove any water soluble contaminants from the manufacturing process and to ensure the dyes aren't water soluble. Haha. There's a point I've always wondered about. Where do you draw the line between "freedom of choice" and "tyranny of choice"? When I was a kid, Mercedes made five models: sedan, luxury sedan, limo, sportscar, and coupe. Now they make 34 different models, and a lot of them look alike. I do what I believe will work our best for a client. That's the only possible solution. A lot of musicians don't even know exactly what they want, or how to articulate it if they do. Your job - and mine - is to interpret the client's true desires and proceed if they are compatible with our own standards. I learned a long time ago that if you take a client's desires literally he/she might not like it in the end. "Be careful of what you desire, because you might end up getting it…"
Dwight Brown
There are rather few things I am absolutely sure about anymore. But. I'm absolutely sure I would trust D.M. with anything to do with a violin or viola case. They are far and away my favorite and in recent years the only reason I bought anything else was limited time or limited funds. DLB
