Hello Luthiers,

Who is interested in a field trip to the mountains in Colorado to learn about and gather spruce and other tonewoods?  This is Simeon Chambers.  I am no longer in the business of tonewood, but have tremendous knowledge I can impart on a field trip where incredible spruce is found.  Last year we obtained many bolts of excellent spruce.

Moderators:  I read the terms and conditions, I am not a commercial wood dealer anymore, nor a dealer in wood at all.  If you want this in another category, please put it in the proper spot.

Here is the deal.  It will happen if there is interest, August 15, 16, 17.   Thursday through Saturday we camp in the woods, near the spruce.  We will have proper permits.  People can stay in a town if they wish, instead of camping.  There is room for up to 15 people.  Reasonable fitness is good.  We will camp at 9,000 feet.

For details, I can be reached via email at sales@toyfishfactory.com or phone 303 507 5225

Simeon,

Welcome to Maestronet. What a wonderful and generous offer. It sounds fabulous and I would love to come but I will be out of the country. Hope it all comes together

Wow, I would very much go if I stayed anywhere closer. I have some really nice spruce I purchased from Simeon some years back, this seems like a good chance to «learn from the best»

Hi All-

Some more details.

We will collect engelmann spruce and possibly aspen.  Last year the group took home i think 160 spruce bolts and a bunch of aspen for viola and cello.  Plus a lot of perfect bass bar bolts.  Maybe this year we could find some wood to split cello bars.  I have the saws and tools.  You supply some elbow grease.  Then, after we work we relax. Beer, or hell this is Colorado after all.  That reminds me.   The lake that John Denver got inspiration for the song "Rocky Mountain High" is nearby.   Williams Lake.

I will tell you as much as i can about what i know about tonewood.  We will walk the forest in some incredible areas, stopping to observe particular tree traits and microclimates  You will learn a ton.  I have a small fee, same as last year.  Please email me for more info or to put you on the list.  sales@toyfishfactory.com

I live in the Denver area and I’m planning to go. I have extra camping gear and room for 3 more people if anyone wants to carpool.

PM if interested.

Was a great time and we hit the mother lode!!! Learned lots and lots of hard work but well worth it.  If anyone is able to attend should he host again would be a great thing.  I am looking forward and hoping for another one next year!!
