Instrument identification, two cellos

Dear Maestros – inspired by your knowledge I’d like to post photos of  my cellos. I was once told they would both be from Germany, late 1800’s, but as I have read so many interesting and detailed discussions here in the pegbox, I was hoping you’d be interested in sharing your expert opinions on their origin. To avoid mixing up the photos here’s only the first cello for now... hope this works...

I cannot view your attachements, I get the  error message below.

New users used to be not permitted to upload photos, maybe that's why. You could try to post links to your photos instead.

Error for me:

rather "the worse for wear" Markneukirchener Ware, pre WWI

Thank you Jacob. I tried to look it up but what does Ware mean in this context? Is that like a trade instrument as opposed to a known luthier?

Sorry, my bad, it was a browser problem for me.

Your 2nd batch of photos is much more convenient, though.

For me your cello looks rather nice, impressively figured wood. But I'm just a clueless lurker trying to learn from the experts such as Jacob.

Thanks - I also love the wood, its in a pretty bad shape though and I've been wondering should someone do something about it....

Is there a name for the area of the scroll that looks like it is hanging down from the "chin"? It seems to me that that bit should helpful in identifying a region and maybe even a maker, as they seem somewhat idiosyncratic, but no one ever talks about it. Do these only exist on cellos (and double basses)? For the record, if it doesn't have a name it should be called a wattle like on a turkey.

Here are my wattles :), the Markneukirchener first. On the other cello I can fit my finger well into the throat to the are where it is flat and the wattle has ended. On the Markneukirchen one I cannot reach that are. However I think that may also be due to the M cello having a much tighter throat, as one can see from the earlier photos of the scroll taken directly from the side.

I wonder if sticking your fingers down it’s throat is considered aceptiable behaviour?
