groovy sound post

This is a photo of a violin soundpost viewed through the f-hole posted on a FB site (I don't have access to the instrument and know nothing about it - but the poster lives in Poland).  The soundpost  has a cut or groove along its lengh and the owner wondered if something was wrong.  Anyone know if this has a purpose?  I guessed that the luthier added it to make it easier to maneuver...

Looks like pencil line to me. Harder pencil tip can easily create slight groove between growth lines and make it appear quite deep.
