hobini
Hello all,There is this fiddle that was found in the basement. I never checked the label/maker as I am new to playing and the instrument in general. My friend checked it last night and freaked out thinking it was a very antique and rare fiddle. Can anyone check the photos and advise me whether to take it to get appraised or not?The name is giuseppe guarnerius fecit cremona

dpappas
Better photos will help (see previous comment), but until then you can bet that the instrument is not extremely rare or valuable. Most instruments use labels as an homage to a famous maker.
deans
I believe it is a German instrument. Based on the limited photos I'm thinking maybe late 19th century Mittenwald, a bit better than a typical basement find. Depending on condition it probably has some value, but nothing close to a Guarnari. Better pics will help. Was there a bow?
duane88
Looks a lot like a Neuner&Hornsteiner, c. 1880's The varnish on the top look messed with.
