Opinions on this label

Maybe the violin maker was a left handed Italian who spent some years making in France, and came back home to Italy, and forgot, and put the corner blocks in the wrong way ?

Its a bit like going to France and driving on the right and coming back to England and driving on the left - it can be very confusing for a while.

Ha. The appraiser never thought of that.

The OP's violin has some features common with Nicholas Lupot. But I don't doubt he was copied a lot.

Worthless for insurance purposes, but you need to understand the nature of this business, especially when dealing with potential values in 7 figures

As the probability of this increases I would be increasingly concerned about getting whatever documentation is necessary for a proper insurance valuation.

Alabama was more refined indeed. Here we have unconfirmed "expert" opinions, unconfirmed "dendro", at least unconfirmed "owner", who possibly very sudden will need money (children to college, family member in hospital etc.) and is urged to sell this 1 million instrument for 100 thousands only without certification? That's the way it can go, hope it won't so!
