dpappas
I just ordered a chinrest and tailpiece from Dov-music, made of castel boxwood, which is apparently some kind of south american hardwood. My last "boxwood" fittings were probably jujube or something similar, and stained a deep red after long exposure to my skin and beard. I'd like to seal my new fittings to prevent this. The new wood material may already be resistant to discoloration, but I wasn't sure if people routinely seal the chinrest and tailpiece, and if so, with what? Thank you. JacksonMaberry
I'd suggest you get some boiled linseed oil and rub in in, let it dry in the sun for a few hours, and repeat. Whatever you decide to use it should be as gentle as possible, since it will be touching your face.
dpappas
Jackson, Thank you. I was also concerned about the harshness of the sealant, since it would be touching my face for over an hour a day.
