I suspect I'm not alone in feeling uneasy about extensive reviews of items at auction before the sale...I don't think it's against the rules of this forum, but there is the potential for all kinds of misdirection, well intended or not...imho.

Oh really!

The scroll exists precisely in order to discuss instruments coming up for sale and auction. The first line of the 'Scroll rules is reproduced below.

"The Auction Scroll is for sharing opinions on instruments listed and offered for sale online on this site or any other. It is for the civil exchange of ideas and opinions about the instruments themselves. " 

I see the scroll conceptually, as analogous to the groups of Parisians collecting around the Guillotine during the Terror. We are here for the conversation and the entertainment and despite our best efforts we often learn something (such as how far the heads bounce if they miss the basket!)

Yes you're right, Televet, my post was ill conceived (and/or stupid).  I guess I was responding to a first time poster and should have written (if anything) make sure you try before you buy!  But of course, the scroll is here for opinions both during and after auctions.  My bad!
